Challenges and Rewards of General Practice in the Canadian Wilderness

Abstract


This article is an insight into rural general practice based on my experience at the Stikine Health Centre in British Columbia, Canada. Challenges of working in rural practice include both a requirement to deal with a large breadth of cases with little medical infrastructure and an ability to cope with the personal pressures that will be encountered. However, the rewards of a more relaxed practice and living in such a beautiful area make this job a true pleasure for those who choose it as a career.
